[You have died. The circumstances in your own world somehow worked out that you've died and now your soul has been cast adrift to go to whatever destination it may. There's a sort of nothingness all around, and you yourself are also a nothingness. It's hard to tell how long you've been in this state and all that you know for certain is that you're dead...

Then, slowly, there is a pulling, something drawing you away from where you were, pulling and pulling, as if you've been caught in some invisible net.]

[eventually she may become aware of a presence, something that seems to move through the thing that's caught her and plucks at it gently, then sliding around her slowly, curious, but also a bit purposeful.

She may start to feel more distinct, more as if she has a physical self, though whatever is there with her remains incorporeal and things like senses don't matter too much.

We are separate...

The thought she "hears" come to her as if in her own voice, but it is distinctly not hers.]

[Her voice seems not to have sound, yet the words are communicated.

Who? The question "echos" and sounds off into a space that seems empty, but slowly filling.

I... only am.]

[Sighs, or an approximation of it.]

So what happens now?

[The presence seems to curl and turn, a bit concerned, it plucks again at the "net" that surrounds her.

You are being sought. Not by your own world. The ones who came say they are brought there... to save a world. For second chances...]

I can feel it... pulling, I guess...

[She's curious.]

What do you mean?

[They died, but were sought out and now are living again, in a world that isn't their own. They are living... for many many reasons. The thought seems to pause here, to express some of its own confusion wordlessly. ...Sometimes, they aren't happy. They are living... but there are many many regrets among them.

...Would you go to such a place? It feels like... the world is very empty. But living seems hard...]

Saving a world sounds like a task that's far too big for just one person to possibly do. What's wrong with it? Will anyone I know be there?

[anonymia]

[I... don't know what is wrong. It is "broken" some thought. And the sad ones feel it is empty. And the hopeful ones want to leave...

It is a world in need... I.. think.

It seems to shift around her. Ones you know may not ever be there or go there... But this "you" may be bound--"bound" seems to resonate with "love" and "pain," its limited understanding of those things--to someone there.]

Maybe and maybe not, is it... Aah, that's fine I guess.

I was alive for a long time. A little bit more wouldn't be too terrible, if it's to help. And I've never been to another world, you know?

[It frets at the net anyway for a moment, remembering--like a haze--the feelings of regret and sadness and trappedness it saw.

You.. may not end up where you should. But... one you among many should see another world--I think. And this "I" is a lot more sure than its other "I"s have been. Brighter, and without the sense that it really understands what it's saying: A superhero said to me that those with power have to use them to help people.]

So you're bringing people back to life?

[The ones who seek you will. I... can free you, but then you will not live.]

This sounds complicated.

[anonymia]

[It seems to agree, then brightens a bit as it remembers something, The ones who seek you are called "gods." They bring people and give them life after death. But they cannot ask "consent" because they aren't here, and so some are angry and want them gone.

But--I--will do it. I am here. Is that a power?]

You're asking for my permission, basically, right? So that I'm not just pulled along and put somewhere all of a sudden. But does that also mean, if I said no, you'd let me go back to where I was before speaking with me?

[Yes, you are not far. I would not know where you go from there.]

Then yes, that is a power, Miss Voice. I take it that a choice isn't a normal thing.

[Seems very pleased by this, and there is a weird sense of remembering moving at a great speed, and loud colors.

Before I.. was. I.. dwelt here. The invisible force that still has her seems to thrum slightly. No choices were given then.]

In my world, my kind could make others do things against their will. It led to a lot of people being unhappy - and hurt. Aah, and yet... [trails off, somewhat regretful]

Are you a god?

[I.. don't know. I.. think some think so. But being a god would be scary...]

You're the most god-like thing I've ever met, if that puts things into perspective.

[It doesn't respond to that. There's only a vague sense of trepidation and worry, being stung and rejected.]
